Abstract In the context of “rural revitalization”, resilience assessment is an important foundation for rural sustainable development. In order to quantitatively evaluate the rural development, taking western Guangdong as an example, a comprehensive evaluation index system of rural resilience was constructed from four dimensions of ecology, society, human resources and economy. By analyzing the spatial differences of rural development resilience in western Guangdong, the main factors affecting rural resilience were identified, and optimal governance strategies were proposed on this basis. The results showed that: (1) The areas with high resilience were distributed in the suburban villages of Jiangcheng District, Maonan District and Potou District, and the radiation capacity of the municipal districts affected the development of rural areas. (2) The resilience development of different rural areas in different dimensions was uneven, and the better developed rural areas tended to develop in an all-round way. (3) The level of economic development was the primary factor affecting the level of rural resilience. Finally, the strategies and measures were proposed to improve rural resilience and promote rural development in four dimensions, in order to provide theoretical and technical support for high-quality rural development.
