Abstract In order to study the protective effect of protective materials on the carbonation protection of concrete of different strength grades and its service life, the carbonation protection performance of three cement-based permeable crystalline materials was investigated by accelerated carbonation test. The prediction formula of concrete carbonation depth were derived, and the service life of concrete with different strength grades after protection were quantitatively characterized based on the Fick first diffusion law. The results indicated that the service life of the protected concrete structure have been greatly improved, the service life of C20 concrete after coating protection have exceeded 100 years, and the service life of concrete below C15 was less than 100 years, but the service life of the protected C10 concrete was still less than 50 years. That is, the protective material can effectively improve the carbonation resistance of the concrete, but for the C10 concrete, the degree of carbonization of the concrete is still deep after the coating protection.
