Abstract:It was arranged canopy structures on both the north and south side of the main station building in Guangzhou South Railway Station (GSRS). Each canopy's roof has a plane area of 421.8 m × 189. 6 m. There were six continuous cross arch shells that formed the canopy in a shape of the Japanese banana's leaf. These two canopy structures of GSRS were consisted of cable-arc, truss and forked special-shaped column. A new type of cable-arc structure had been used, in which the inhaul cable and the body of the arch shell were bended in the same direction. It had a graceful shape, good stability and good wind-re- sistant performance. The most difficult and important points of the design and construction wsa its pre- stress and arch join node. The construction and design process of the canopy structure were introduced in this paper, and an analysis on the working principle of the pre-stress of cable-arch structure was done. It had a valuable reference for those who's going to design and construct a big space structure.
