The effects of different temperature on the respiratory metabolism of the 4^th instar larvae of Diaphania angustalis were studied. The insects were collected from Alstonia scholaris L.on the east campus of Guangxi University. The results showed that the CO2 release rate of the 4^th instar larvae of Diaphania angustalis changed obviously in different temperatures. The release rate of CO2 at 15 ℃ and 35 ℃ were significantly different from that at the other temperatures(P〈0.01).In the range of 20 ℃ to 30 ℃,however, the CO2 release rates of the 4^th instar larvae of Diaphania angustalis changed within a small range, which were not significant(P〈0.01).The sensitivity of respiration rate of insects to temperature was also calculated.Within 20 ℃ to 30 ℃,the value of Q(10) was minimum. It was concluded that the temperature range between 20 ℃ to 30 ℃ was the optimal condition for the growth and development of the 4-(th) instar larvae of Diaphania angustalis.
