Abstract Ixora plants are an ornamental tropical plant with bright colour，great plant arohitecture andwide range of environmental adaptability． The effect of different substrates and the different concentrationsof NAA on rooting of Ixora coccinea L． were studied by air layering． The results showed that among thefour substrates of peat，perlite，water moss and sawdust，the best rooting effect was water moss with therooting rate of 53. 33%． The average number of roots and average root length in water moss were 3. 03and 3. 54 cm，respectively． In addition，four different concentrations of NAA (50，100，150，200 mg/L)were used to treat the strips． The results showed that 150 mg/L treatment had the best rooting effect．The rooting rate was 86. 67%，the average number of roots was 4. 2，and the average root length was3. 13 cm．
